In 2006 the Packaging Waste Regulations changed to allow Small Producers to opt for the allocation route to compliance, allowing small producers to save valuable time and money. Small Producers with a turnover of between £2 and £5 million pounds handling in excess of 50 tonnes of packaging waste per year can opt for the allocation method.

 

The allocation method is voluntary, however if chosen it must be followed for at least 3 years. The allocation is based on the previous calendar year sales and the main packaging material handled.

For 2009 the evidence allocation per £1 million of turnover is 28 tonnes and for 2010 will be 29 tonnes of the main material handled i.e. Paper, Plastic, Steel, Aluminium, Glass, Wood etc. PRN prices vary across materials.
